Oct. 19 2017 | #metoo // The Rise in Sexual Assault Awareness |

Harvey Weinstein, a sexual assault perpetrator; the man inciting conversation across the media platforms: Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, is pushing sexual violence to the headlines in various news media outlets.

Tarana Burke, the founder of the Me Too Movement, started the conversation 10 years ago for the women of color affected by the sexual trauma. A movement to aid the victims in communities where resources weren't widely available especially to cope with the emotional and physical well-being of victims.

Despite the creation of the Me Too Movement, Burke has not received credit.

The face of the popularity of the movement is accredited to Alyssa Milano, whom tweeted the hashtag #metoo to spark the conversation of sharing the sexual assault stories and victims in relation to the Weinstein stories appearing from left to right.

Burke initiated the conversation, let her collective whispers of 10 years be accredited and heard; the action placed in the creating a unity within the strong-willed affected individuals.

A wave of stories, individuals sharing their experience of uncomfortable and uncalled for situations which traumatized their personhood: emotional and physical drainage.

Allow the voices to speak louder, action to take place, and the term perpetrators to vanish from our diction.

Acknowledge and take action.
