MAR. 24, 2020: Absorbing

Absorbing

To be free is to be okay with mistakes and inconveniences.

By yours truly, Karla.

As the COVID-19 virus indulges in each crack of the earth, the constructed society of every individual piece of land on the earth is quaking of fear.

Every country is being slowly struck by the zoonotic virus, and the primary recognized cases surfaced in Wuhang, China back in November 2019.

The United States government has recently implemented restrictions of social engagement in order to fulfill their glamour "Stay at Home" order. Obviously, individuals are all showcasing a different sentiment over the harsh restrictions.

But, individuals living paycheck by paycheck have felt the order has hurt their economic responsibilities and daily living. Corporations have shown no remorse for individuals and have nearly sent home those out of the "Tech" or "Essential" businesses to deal with their own survival, you can say. I definitely think most people don't consider the money value in this society, especially under a capitalistic indulging materialistic world.

Since the "shutdown" of Los Angeles on Thursday, March 19th, I've become to realize how there are so many discrepancies of fair treatment of those outside the western privilege individuals. I'm talking about the people favored and shown as role models, the "techy" middle or upper-class education and abled individual.

If you are male with a stern and masculine persona, great! Extra brownie points!

It's upsetting in all honesty.

I admire the coworkers that accompany every morning in the physical warehouse.

I admire their roots in Latinx culture.

I admire their stories and the mentioned love ones that bring light in their eyes as they speak of them.

It's their way of warmly greeting me each morning that warms my heart, especially when they share empathy with my daily duties.

Although, I wish I knew how I was able to help them better especially in such a blinding crisis, where they don't see their mind and body sacrifice every time they walk through the heavy steel doors in the morning.

The womxn working in the warehouse put both their mind and body at risk of any exposure to the COVID-19 virus so they can bring food to the table.

I recognize the privilege I hold stepping into the daunting office but I also like to use this privilege to be a leeway into increasing benefits for these individuals.

Because its people that work in the warehouse supplying and managing essential item shipments all across the US that are often unrecognized and admired.

Because society only loves to indulge in the western role model icon instead of the individuals that work their ass off to supply for their families.

Especially families of authentic cultural roots that are scrutinized in the public spaces of the US.

The COVID-19 outbreak is a wake-up call to the injustice and lack of empathy of humans to humans, humans to earth, and humans to animals.

(ps..... I made a playlist amongst the whole chaos)
