During Ruth Weisberg's, the first Jewish woman artist in the Art Association, schooling years at the University of Michigan. A visible discouragement by school faculty especially male professors towards women artist in her class was seen through her schooling years. The women in her class were discouraged from getting MFA degrees since they were destined to be according to the professors at the time, "housewives." "I knew it wasn't the case, but we couldn't argue with them," stated Ruth. Currently, the Jewish community especially women are faced with an issue from the current Trump Administration’s display of anti-Semitism and anti-Women rights. Women reproductive rights attacked through settled laws diminishing abortion clinics and available resources for safe intercourse is worrisome. Weisberg’s work highlights the values of culture and femininity, enlightening communities to be self-aware of their power of togetherness and values as indiv

A "self- exploration" day in Los Angeles on a gloomy Sunday began at the Hammer Museum--affiliated with UCLA. It had been advertised online via the Hammer website that the museum was holding an exhibition on Latin American art based off of the critical period of Latina women encompassing the development of contemporary art. The art which reflected the political and social tensions during the rise of attention towards patriarchy and the politicization of the feminine body. The dictatorship of various Latin American countries is seen to be exhibited in the contemporary art as well. Walking into the museum, the self-portrait of Liliana Porter (pictured above) brought the attention of many. People stood in front of the self-portrait in awe, the composition of the photo and the drawn square on Porter's face distinguished it from any other portrait. The "enclosed" eye symbolizes the objectification of the parts of an individuals body, the importance of

Harvey Weinstein, a sexual assault perpetrator ; the man inciting conversation across the media platforms: Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, is pushing sexual violence to the headlines in various news media outlets.  "#metoo  #metoo" Tarana Burke, the founder of the Me Too Movement , started the conversation 10 years ago for the women of color affected by the sexual trauma. A movement to aid the victims in communities where resources weren't widely available especially to cope with the emotional and physical well-being of victims.  "#metoo #metoo" Despite the creation of the Me Too Movement, Burke has not received credit. The face of the popularity of the movement is accredited to Alyssa Milano, whom tweeted the hashtag #metoo to spark the conversation of sharing the sexual assault stories and victims in relation to the Weinstein stories appearing from left to right.  Burke initiated the conversation, let

Oct. 13 2017 | Vulnerability & Feminism // Brianna Perez Profile |

Image
A 20-year-old creative enthusiast and aesthetic seeker, Brianna Perez, enjoys the company of passionate people on her off days from a labor-intensive schedule at a local juice bar. The loyalty she holds in tackling work responsibilities on a daily basis is equivalent to the awareness of personal social media accounts, especially keeping up with La Habra residents film and photography work. Both of these visual hobbies: film and photography, resonate with Perez's way of reinforcing the values of relationships, either romantic or familial. In a brief interview, Perez talked about vulnerability, body image, and the feminist movement.  What does vulnerability mean to you? "It means something along the lines of exposing yourself in an uncomfortable way." "It's a pure form and uncomfortable, there you go." Have there been any moments that you have felt this way? Whether if it's regarding relationships

Oct. 12 2017 | "What If" // Personal Growth Journal Entry #1 |

What If? What if I deleted a social media account that I visited frequently? What if I decided to dedicate the time to work on projects of interest? What if I got help for a delayed issue that has gotten worse over the years? What if I acted for my interests and valued myself as an individual, mainly as a 20-year-old latina student living on her own with two jobs? What if-- I do . Personal growth is an idea which is ongoing for people, but the interpretation of self-enhancement varies; the "Übermensch" is the light at the end of the tunnel for everyone after all. Thoughts ground us, the precaution of taking a leadership role is frightening, and we begin to fall under the herd to which we become a follower and the insecurity of our ideas become apparent. "The job of a leader is to create, expand and preserve options – not limit them." Steve Jobs, the turtleneck enthusiast, valued the idea of using the "What if audit." It influenced creativ

Oct. 4 2017 | HispanicizeLA // A Networking Convention for Aspiring Media Contributors |

The hotel appeared as a luxurious island in the midst of the LA traffic, popular news media vehicles parked in front of the building with the noticeable rushed box filled goodies into the structure by Facebook representatives. A social media convention hosted at the Lion Hotel for aspiring journalists and well-known media contributors for networking purposes attracted five-second pitches and anxious sweating. "People will tear you apart, the world is like that," said Elizabeth Espinosa, KTLA 5 news reporter. Espinosa touched base on the idea of taking the initiative on creating connections from the readers of portraying the story and using the content as the derivative of the reader's attention. The story is necessary, the platform published in is of little importance. All the basics are needed, and the fancy new digital factors will be of later justice. "We are students of life," added Espinosa, "Take initiative." The discouragement

Sept. 23 2017 | NiSantas "Pachanga y Arte" // An Art Show Fundraiser for Mexico & Puerto Rico Community Relief |

Bold letters on posted signs near a glass door entry of an unappealing building welcomed LA art enthusiasts into the dark streets for a night of handmade crafts and spoken word. A night of socializing, and networking to support the awareness of the natural disasters which hit Mexico and Puerto Rico recently.      The night had begun with DJ sets, music blasting Usher throwbacks to classics such as The Delfonics. People glanced at each other as the songs flowed from a genre to another, a nonverbal communication to reassure each other of the enjoyment of each other's company.     A pause followed along with the exchanged stares; an announcement was made of the upcoming spoken word artists to present that night.     "The words that we speak gives the soul to--" rapped Maleek the Freak, a CSULB Fashion Design student.      She took center stage with her partner, The Xicanica, and performed a rap duo to encourage women of col
